Traditional fishfinders transmit a pulse at a single frequency, but CHIRP technology sweeps a pulse across a wide frequency band. This results in 5 to 10 times greater detail and resolution so precise it is possible to distinguish between individual baitfish, game fish, and underwater structures.
By comparing the shape of the stored transmission pulse with the received echoes, these transducers find targets in the noise and determine their range with astounding accuracy. This enables closely spaced fish and those lying on the bottom to be accurately detected and displayed as distinct targets, even at far greater depths and higher boat speeds than conventional sonar.
